What's New in WHMIS with the GHS Revisions?
One of the three most noticeable differences we see in the new WHMIS course is the use of the diamond shaped pictograms for the hazard symbols in WHMIS which is in line with the hazard symbols used in GHS.
The wording used to group hazards into categories of Health Hazards and Physical Hazards also helps workers to relate to why a hazard is a concern to them and their co-workers.
The Safety Data Sheet which is part of WHMIS is another significant change from the Material Safety Data Sheet that is part of WHMIS 1988.
Overall, WHMIS represents many improvements in the communication system in place in Canada with the intent to increase workers safety.
